This DVD is an extension of the techniques Ann introduced in her ground-breaking book, Color by Accident: Low-Water Immersion Dyeing. In an orderly progression of topics with over 250 samples of fabric and 17 live demonstrations, Ann teaches how and when to vary her basic method, including how to:

  • mix colors without exact recipes
  • create a smooth value gradation across one piece of fabric
  • manipulate the fabric to create many different textures
  • manage large pieces of fabric in small spaces
  • see the differences in the single-chemical dye colors
  • adapt the Procion® dyes to silk
  • follow up with your own explorations with dyes

“It is quite ingenious the way you make patterns. It seems like an expanded approach from shibori in that the process is based on the dimensional transformation and mastering of dye permeation. But, it’s much simpler and is amazingly effective! I have two of your books, which I admire for the clear organization of material.”

– Yoshiko I. Wada, Berkeley, CA

“This could easily become an obsession. Ann not only shows how to use the dyes, fabrics and simple materials, containers and accessories necessary to accomplish her low-water dyeing process, but she inspires you from the first moments of her DVDs to explore the infinite possibilities of her methods. Small changes in amounts of dye, water and mixing produce widely varying results, and you begin to understand why Ann’s fabrics are always so glorious and unique. Anyone with an interest in working with amazing fabric choices will want to experiment with her techniques and discover the endless variety of color, pattern and value that can be created on cloth.”

– Kit Robinson, Machine Quilting Unlimited

“In my previous life I was a corporate trainer and even a training director for a while. I have degrees in education and have designed training programs and trained trainers. So I think I have a pretty good idea of what is a well-organized, informative and enjoyable workshop, not just for me but for anyone interested in the subject matter. It’s obvious that a lot of work went into designing and producing the workshop and I am so very grateful that Ann chose to do it.”

– Kathie Briggs, Charlevoix, MI
