What a Ride, virtual exhibit for SAQA juried by Carolyn Skei

This exhibit invited SAQA members to submit works that capture life’s exciting rides using textiles and thread. The exhibit welcomes art quilts that speak of the activities, gestures, times, or movements that make life a perplexing or joyous ride.

My artist comment:

Looking at this quilt reminds me of the ride I have been on, making quilts and dyeing fabric since the 1970s. My memories of merry-go-rounds prompted this piece for a show called “dreams of childhood” at a time when our children were enjoying them too. For this one, I tried techniques and made design decisions entirely new to me, learning a lot and finishing in 1990, long after I missed that deadline. I have made hundreds of quilts since then, enjoying experimentation and discovery.
